I had been aching for the next adventure and this roadtrip seemed to come just at the right time. My 2015 season had just come to a close and I needed to push the refresh button for my mind and for my creativity. There is something about seeking the unknown that drives both me and my husband to do this type of travel. It’s our all time favorite type of trip, which is why we have done two roadtrips in the last 2 years! Here is the blog post from our cross country trip from last year! On this trip we visited Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas while stopping in at a few national parks – Saguaro, Chiracahua, Guadalupe Mountains, Carlsbad Caverns, White Sands, and my favorite – Big Bend! We also stopped in Tombstone, AZ (any Doc Holiday fans?), visited historic Spanish missions, slept under the stars, and ate the BEST mexican food every.single.day. Here is what i’ve been up to for the last 2 weeks! This is a combination of pictures from my nice camera and Mike’s android phone (I honestly was quite impressed with the quality from it!)
When you visit Saguaro you can’t help but think the cactus are shaped like people – I call this one Pinocchio Cactus
sleeping under the Saguaro’s was unreal
Hot cocoa in the cold desert – I don’t think we were quite prepared for 30 degree nights in November!
We stopped at the old western town of Tombstone, Arizona. I wore my desperado outfit.
One huge surprise on this trip was Chiracahua national monument in Arizona. It was like we were the only ones in the park and it was ABSOLUTELY gorgeous!
This looked like a good place for side-angle pose ;)
The hoodoos!
Then we were off to White Sand Dunes – this place was so unique! Imagine sand dunes for miles and miles, just white dunes and blue sky.
We rented a sled, because why not? Mike was not hurt in the making of this video ;)
Love this photo of us – this is when we are at our happiest
I can’t get over this light from the sunset!!! Also, my husband can do a mean high kick!Guadalupe Mountains National Park
Carlsbad Caverns, NM was the biggest cave I have ever seen – the main room is over 8 ACRES ALL UNDERGROUND!
One of the coolest things we did was raft down the Rio Grande in the state park next to Big Bend!
Mexico on the right, US on the left
The stars at night are big and bright, deep in the heart of Texas
Sunrise Hike to the Window at Big Bend Chisos Basin
That’s a Butte!
In our last stop in San Antonio we stayed in a renovated airstream we found on AirBNB! Loved the outdoor shower!
The outer wall of The Alamo
We checked out a number of Spanish missions, these were some very old structures dating back to the early 1700s. I love the history here.
We did manage to lock ourselves in the airstream one day and have to crawl out of the window to the right of the door. At least the owner brought us firewood and beer that night!
And last, but definitely not least, the food was AMAZING. We ate so much deliciously bad for you food and have no regrets. Just have a few pounds to drop now… after christmas ;)
