Mike and I took a big vacation at the end of October to Italy. We saw lots of beautiful things and ate lots of yummy food. Our roadtrip took us to Venice, Florence, Pisa, Umbria, Pompeii, and the Amalfi coast. All places that were so unique in their own way. I’ll let you see for yourself! If you get all the way to the end I’ll make you some spaghetti :)
This is a combination of my SLR and Mike’s android. See if you can tell the difference!
First stop, Venice! This is where we stayed all the way on the top floor. Did you know the first floor floods in the winter and people have to walk around in waders?
Obsessed with these wooden boats ever since Casino Royale!
View from the Rialto bridge over the Grand Canal
Oh Venice, you are the most unique place I have ever been.
One of my favorites!
San Marco square
The building where they filmed the end scenes of Casino Royale :)
Gelato! Every. Single. Day.
The Italians love their stripes
I made Mike wake up at sunrise to take a few pictures around Venice when the crowds were not as big. I love them! Thank you self-timer!!
Next up, a gondola ride!
I have always dreamed of doing this – loved every minute of it!
Get ready for a color change – we took a day trip to bright and beautiful Burano. A little island off the coast of Venice.
It is required that all clothing match the color of your home in Burano
I could not stop taking photos here! Every corner was so cheery and photogenic!
We saw other people taking this photo, I like it :)
My dad’s comment: “Did you make Mike go all the way across the canal just to take this photo.” Yes. Yes I did.
Then we were off to FLORENCE! We saw the DAVID!
The Duomo took my breath away. It’s amazing!
We timed it just right to see the sunrise from the top of the Duomo. It was magical!
Next Stop, the Leaning Tower of Pisa!
We had to….
Then we climbed it. Mike reenacting Vertigo on the right.
Pisa, Italy
Off to the Italian countryside! We stayed in an airBNB on an organic farm in Umbria.
It was so peaceful! This was our view every morning.
Francesca, the owner, brought us fresh eggs from the farm for our breakfast.
Our little country home for a few days
Exploring the farm
The closest town was Citta della Pieve – a very small medieval town which was fun to explore!
While we were there we felt two earthquakes which were not too far from us. Luckily the effects were just a little shaking for us.
Farm friend.
The most beautiful views of the countryside.
Next up – Pompeii! You can see Vesuvius in the background here.
I still can’t get over how preserved everything is – they are still finding new things every day!
Pink Floyd – Live in Pompeii
Our last stop of the trip – Praiano on the Amalfi Coast. Here’s our parking spot with a view! We left our car parked here for a few days and relaxed from driving. Driving in Italy is INTENSE. Think mopeds weaving in and out, no lanes, curvy roads… it’s very stressful so it was nice to take a break from it.
The “Hike of the Gods”
Our AirBNB!
It overlooked the sea!
In my happy place
We were there at the end of the season so it was a little too cold to swim, but it was fun to explore in the off-season without tons of people around.
Italian Herbie!
The cappuccinos in Italy are THE BEST. I think I had one almost every day.
Our dinners looked like this every night <3
Cappuccino and Cannoli
On our last day we visited Positano, I love how the houses are all built into the mountain.
Perfecto!!
Looks like an AMAZING trip! And now I want to go:) Loved looking at your photos!
You owe my a dinner. We absolutely loved Italy. So much so that we are going back in September. One of our favorite places is Taormina,Sicily.
Would love to show you an artist rendition of one picture you photographed.
Hope you have a great Christmas

Love your photos, Adrienne! I felt like I was in Italy again. Your couple photos are such a good reminder to bring a tripod on a trip, too. Doing that for our next trip for sure.
